The Museum for East Texas Culture

The Museum for East Texas Culture is a nonprofit organization located in Palestine, Texas. Plan a trip with your family or friends and visit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students. The museum is located at 400 Michaeux Avenue, Palestine, Texas 75801. If you have any questions, feel free to call the museum at (903) 723-1914.

History of the Museum

In 1916, the museum started out as a high school. In 1939, it became a junior high and from 1966-1976, it served as an elementary school. The school was closed in 1976 and was set to be demolished. However, several citizens banned together and prevented the school from being torn down and instead, it was renovated and turned into a museum.

Open since 1982, the Museum for East Texas Culture provides rich heritage not only from just the historic building, but from the various interesting exhibits as well. Whether it’s an afternoon visit, a class trip, or a family outing, the Museum for East Texas Culture is sure to provide visitors with an educational, thought-provoking experience.
