The Pineywoods Autumn Trail runs from Athens to Palestine and consists of 145 miles of gorgeous scenic driving. The Palestine Visitor Center and the City of Athens Department of Tourism partnered for this trail, and people are encouraged to get in their vehicles and drive along it. You’ll be treated to vibrant colors and more fall foliage than you can imagine when you drive along the trail.

Zip Through the Trees
If you’re an adventure-seeker, stop at New York Texas Zipline Adventures during your drive. You will go on a 90-minute zipline adventure that will take you along the treetops. That fall foliage might look great from the road, but it looks even better when you’re zipping right past it. Don’t worry if you’ve never ziplined before. This team consists of trained guides who will make sure you get the proper equipment and training before you take off on the zipline. You will feel safe, secure, and in awe of your surroundings when you take this tour.
Hop Aboard the Texas State Railroad
Leave your vehicle behind and hop aboard the Texas State Railroad. This train will take you along the Piney Woods so you can see the fall foliage without having to drive. It’s an excellent way to experience the changing seasons, and you will love the historic railroad.
Stop by Davey Dogwood Park
Davey Dogwood Park is a favorite during the fall season. The 200-acre park also has close to six miles of hard-surfaced roads that wind through the trees. The trees change during the fall season and create a picturesque scene you won’t want to miss. In fact, families have been known to bring their entire brood to the park for holiday pictures. Don’t forget to bring a picnic lunch as well. This park is perfect for hanging out for a bit. You won’t want to rush off when you see how beautiful it is in person.
