Do I Need To Pay Attention To RPM While Driving?

Whether or not you need to monitor the RPM or your vehicle while you’re driving depends on the type of transmission your vehicle has. If you have a manual transmission you will need to pay close attention to the tachometer which indicates the engine’s current RPM. At the top of the tachometer is a zone called the redline. Pushing your engine above the redline can be dangerous as it can damage the engine. You will learn to downshift or upshift to avoid that. If you are driving a vehicle with an automatic transmission you don’t need to worry about the tachometer. Your transmission will shift gears automatically.
